Summer Solstice at Glastonbury Tor
Download© Licensed to London News Pictures; 20/06/2020; Glastonbury, Somerset, UK. A woman wears an illuminated cape as people gather on Glastonbury Tor for sunset on the Summer Solstice weekend on the longest day of the year today at midsummer. This year due to the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic and concerns over social distancing at gatherings of people, Stonehenge and Avebury where thousands of people usually gather to celebrate the summer solstice are closed to the public, with the solstice live streamed from Stonehenge. Glastonbury authorities had also asked people to refrain from coming to Glastonbury for the solstice but hundreds came with many staying the night on the Tor. Glastonbury Tor is a hill outside Glastonbury town, topped by the roofless St Michael's Tower, a Grade I listed building which is what remains of the Church of St Michael built in the 14th century. The entire site is managed by the National Trust and has been designated a scheduled monument. Photo credit: Simon Chapman/LNP.
