The painting, originally known as “Girl with Balloon”, was famously shredded by the artist in Sotheby’s London auction room in 2018 after being sold for £1,042,000.  The resulting artwork was later renamed “Love Is in the Bin” and will be offered for sale in Sotheby’s contemporary art evening auction on October 14 with an estimate of £4-6 million. Sotheby’s was acquired by French telecoms entrepreneur Patrick Drahi in 2019 and the latest published accounts for Sotheby’s UK show that Mr Drahi set up a new company to complete a sale and leaseback transaction for the Sotheby’s New Bond Street building, financed by a £150m mortgage against the property followed by a £100m dividend paid to its new parent company.
